Study aims & objectives

The survey aims to:

  • Determine if the London-wide HIV Prevention Programme multimedia and digital interventions have reached black African communities.

  • Explore whether black African men and women are using condoms and other safer sex options.

  • Understand if the LHPP has influenced whether and how often people in black African communities undertake HIV testing.

  • Gather information for use in future LHPP prevention interventions.

  • Estimate HIV prevalence among the target population, including the undiagnosed fraction

The survey (available in English and French) involves trained fieldworkers going to social and commercial venues frequently visited by black African men and women. Those who agree to take part will complete a questionnaire and provide an oral fluid sample for unlinked anonymous HIV testing. The required sample size is 750. The survey will run for 3 months from September – December 2016.
