Mayisha 2016 is the latest venue-based study exploring the sexual attitudes and lifestyles of black African communities living in England.  The first “MAYISHA” study was established in 1997 as a collaborative project focusing on five local African communities in the London Boroughs of Camden and Islington. The Mayisha study was published by Chinouya et al (1999). Mayisha II (Sadler et al 2004) built on the success of the original Mayisha. This larger study recruited participants in Luton and the West Midlands as well as in London. Mayisha II was also the first study to show that anonymous HIV testing was feasible and acceptable to African communities in England.
